Runs TOOOO Hot for my Liking!

Greetings Moparians,

By now many of you have seen Gertrude, the 1968 convertible Newport that Chrysler apparently hastily cobbled together for export. Given how she came with a VERY OLD 115VAC plug-in coolant heater pump, I suspect this car saw duty at those latitudes above 45 degrees North. The following radiator came on the car:

This radiator lists as follows: 2898057 1968 C 22 383 MANL HTR
That’s consistent with other quirks of this…

Who makes the BEST Mechanical Fuel Pumps for B/RB Mopar engines?

Greetings Moparians!

After fitting out Gertrude with a manual choke on that Stromberg WWC I’m currently using, I noticed that the fuel pump had started leaking DANGEROUSLY. So I replaced that with the 2 yr old Carter I’d got from NAPA for Mathilda when I needed a fuel pump in a hurry, and its doing fine. For the first time since buying Gertrude, there is NO SMELL of petrol AT ALL under that hood! I’d suspected the carburetor at first, but seeing made for believing this afternoon. I’m…

Meet Gertrude: the Newest Morris Mopar, 1968!

As hinted, I now can thank my Lord it came to pass. Today, we purchased a 1968 Chrysler Newport convertible! It drove after the seller got her off his buddy’s trailer, but RAN horribly! Since the man had warned me about this symptom and possible cause, I took it all in good cheer, already knowing what I would do, and what that in turn would do.

CAP: Keep or Delete? The Next One has it…

Greetings Esteemed Moparians!

While perusing the engine compartment pic for the Next Newport, I noticed the distributor control valve in back of the Carter B & B carb that indicates a CAP setup.

The current owner complained of the carburetor malfunctioning, but I now suspect maladjustment as much as possible inherent malfunction. The Burning Question arises as this thread is titled: CAP: Keep or Delete? THIS one, as a ’68 WILL be subject to emissions…

How Different is a 1968 Newport from a 1966?

Greetings Moparians!

In the interest of QUICKLY GETTING A DRIVER back on the streets, my wife and I have found a VERY attractive 1968 Newport, which, with God’s blessing, we will have clear title to before Friday. the lack of a downloadable FSM on MyMopar.com dismays me a little, but I see that the 1968 doesn’t appear too different from a 1966. That reassures an old junky who had his CNS badly rattled about a week ago now.

Do any of my Esteemed Senior Moparians know if there are…

Mathilda, Our Lovely 66 Newport, Wantonly DESTROYED by a Gen Xcrement Sociopath!

Even now, over 2.5 days after the crime, I grieve and rage for the BEST automobile God ever permitted me to own and drive, our 1966 Chrysler Newport, lovingly called “Mathilda” by all in my little family. All this summer, I’ve dreaded some tragedy, with good reason. Monday, September 13, at 0730, it occurred as I was driving my little 3 yr old autistic daughter home with me after dropping my wife and 6 yr old off at the elementary school where one works and the other is taking her first…

Well, 2 years, Stromberg WWC rebuild leaking copiously. Edelbrock Time?

Tucson gets NOTHING BUT MOONSHINE-OH-LEEN, so, would anyone be surprised that a well rebuilt Stromberg WWC job has gone to HELL being used heavily in RECORD HOT URBAN TRAFFIC? I don’t think this too surprising, though ONE more year would have made me happier.

So, should I try the Holley 2210 next, with the same aging carb guru? He did a fine job, especially considering his price, and I have high confidence in the man, BUT, WILL THIS BE WORTH THE TROUBLE?

I bought an old stock 4 bbl low…
