Spits when Hot !

I have a mildly built 360, with what appears to be an older Edelbrock "Torker" or something...Edelbrock is in the old script....looks like a mild high rise.....Anyway, the Holley is setting directly on top with nothing but a gasket..........

Shouldn't this have a spacer to help insulate the bowls from heat transfer?

The motor runs crappy when it's hot......step on it and it spits or pops at me like a vapor lock or something..........

I know I need a good insulated fuel line, but I don't think this carb is right without a spacer......gas too hot probably?....You can smell the fuel too when it's hot, and there are no leaks.

Can somebody help out here? :read2:
