Found a Demon 340/4spd!!!

Before anyone asks for them... no, I didn't get any pictures. I know, I hate it too... my camera was dead. Anyways... I've actually known about the car for a couple months but finally got a chance to stop by this afternoon. The car is a 1971 Demon 340 and a 4 spd. It was originally red with black interior, bucket seats, no console, rally gauges, 8 3/4, and it had a flat hood. The guy that owns this car has had it for over 30 years now. Many years back, he parked it along with a '68 Camaro under a shed at his house. Well, last December we had a rare snow storm come through the area and the snow caused the roof of the shed to collapse on the two cars.

I didn't even look at the Slo-maro but the Demon showed mostly only damage to the roofskin. It wasn't so bad that it busted out the glass.... but bad enough to wrinkle the roofskin to where it needs to be replaced. Some time in the past, the passenger quarter panel was dented and some of the thick body filler is starting to flake off. It should be replaced. The driver side lower quarter will need a little patch. The frame rails looks good from what I could tell but the trunk pan showed signs of very minor rust holes in the spare tire sump. The interior floors seems solid too, but I'm sure there might be a few pin holes. The doors, fenders, tail panel, decklid, and grille all look to be in decent shape. The hood had a little rust from where an aftermarket scoop was mounted. It was dented a little towards the rear (probably from the shed incident). The the dent caused the hood not to open because it was wedged tight against the cowl.

I wish I could have opened the hood though. He said the original 340 was still in the car. He said that many years ago the car ran hot and he ended up replacing the heads with a set of 318 heads. He said ever since then, the engine was never the same. He had a nice, wide pair of slot mags on the rear and 6 or 7 inch slots on the front.

Don't get me wrong, this is a project car that has set up for many years and will need an overall restoration.... but it's 100% complete and would make a nice A-Body muscle car! My question is... what is something like this worth in this condition? He doesn' really want to sell the car... but he didn't act like it was completely out of the question. I would like to make offer, but I don't want to screw myself either and pay too much for it. How rare is something like this? I have always like Demons but don't really keep up with the details. If I bought it, then I would have to sell my '73 Dart Sport (Demon clone project) which is very solid and wouldn't take much to finish.

Tell me your thoughts. It may be a little while before I could get some pictures. He lives about 50 miles from me and I don't get over that way very often. Thanks
