Hey everyone, it's time to offer up this 1973 Duster that we have been working on over the summer. First a little background...
This car started life as a 6 cylinder automatic car with A/C. It was originally green. It has been off the road for at least the last 5 years since it showed up in our town. It has been owned by 2 different people in our town who did nothing to it, and it was slated to be sold to another individual who would also have probably done nothing to it. My brother and I rescued it with the intention of finally getting it up and running and selling it as a running project.
Heres the details...
It now has a 318 and automatic that I removed from a 1969 Satellite last year that was a running and driving car. It has manual disc up front and an 8 1/4" open rear end out back. It has a white bucket seat interior with console shift, Rallyes and B.F. Goodrich tires, dual painted racing mirrors and dual exhaust. It is now running but is not quite ready for the road.
Some items to address...
First and foremost in the need department is the roof. I don't know what happened to it in the past, but I think this car had a vinyl roof and it got moisture under it and started to rust the top. Someone along the way (probably at the time it was painted yellow) bondo'd the top pretty heavy and screwed a piece of sheetmetal to the underside of the roof. My opinion is that the entire roof needs to be replaced or at least the bondo completely removed and the structure inspected to see what is exactly going on. It seems solid everywhere you can see the structure, but a complete re-roof would be the easiest way to really fix it.
It needs carpet, the passenger door panel, the seats need recovered, and the headliner needs to be replaced. This car is a good project car for someone who will give it a good home and work on it to bring it back to the road. It's close now, but it needs to be taken to the next level!!
