CVF Alternator running hot

I just put a new CVF 1 wire alternator on my Duster and noticed after a few minutes of idling the alternator gets really hot, too hot to even touch, especially the pulley. I tried disconnecting the charger wire and letting it idle and it gets warm but nothing like when charge wire is connected which leads me to believe it's not a belt slipping or anything.
