Barracuda woes part 2.

I have a 69 'Cuda that I recently installed a 340 into. I purchased one of the billet style cheapo distributors that utilizes an hei style module. Car ran great for a total of about three hours. Next day it wouldn't do anything. It has great spark and getting fuel. My friend came over and he moved the distributor counterclockwise absurdly far. It started half-ass firing again but still wouldn't run. If we even moved it slightly a degree back it wouldn't do anything. I am wondering if the car somehow jumped time between running and not running or if the distributor is somehow firing at the wrong time. I ran a 12 gauge hot lead from solenoid to coil just to make sure it gets good voltage. We also checked the rotor by giving it a good twist and there wasn't any play. We are totally dumbfounded. I did recently purchase a nice Mopar electronic distributor and orange box as back up. Seems like car should run with fuel fire and compression though. I did do a compression check and cylinders show 180.
