Bob’s Component Resto, Part 25: The Paperwork

Good evening my Mopar kiddies. I trust the new year has brought you happiness, peace and restful sleep. For some of us of course, the new year may not bring an end to your challenged sleep schedule, and so we’ll try to remedy that with this evening’s component resto chapter: The Paperwork. As you likely know, there was a lot of “paperwork” that accompanied our Chrysler vehicles when they were delivered new. For many guys and gals, this paperwork really isn’t that important and missing it is…

Gasket genius: We need you now!

Hi All: How many of us have owned a MOPAR product that DID NOT have a leaky brake master cylinder? Go to any junkyard full of vintage Mopar cars. Pretty much all of them show a great deal of firewall corrosion around the master cylinder, because they all leaked corrosive brake fluid onto the paint. The leaks are almost always from the master cylinder lid gasket. No matter what I do, I cannot stop my lid from leaking. And yes, I’ve tried all the tricks listed in this forum, short of replacing…

Truck versus Duster, and truck won.

Hi All: I don’t know about you, but I’m sick and tired of stuff falling off trucks and damaging my cars. It’s happened to my 69 Charger ($800.00 worth of damage) and now it just happened to my 1974 Duster. I was recently driving on a two lane state highway. A tanker truck was approaching me from the opposite direction. As he passed, I observed a piece of metal pipe come off the back of his truck, take one bounce off the pavement and then hit the left side of my hood. Had it struck six inches…

Eleven inches of snow last night!

Mopar brethren and sisterhood: We just had a winter storm pass through Minneapolis last night, followed by brilliant sunshine this morning. Even though I can’t drive it in the winter, I just love the way my 74 Gold Duster looks in fresh snow. So for your viewing pleasure, here’s what she looks like after the storm came through. The weak midwinter sun in Minnesota has a golden glow to it that really makes the JY9 Tahitian Gold Metallic paint pop out. I’m also sending along a few photos of my…

Looking for a NOS starter relay p/n 2444442

Does anyone have a new, unused NOS Mopar starter relay, p/n 2444442 (for a 74 Duster) for sale? 1973 date code desired. New unused only, no used parts. New in box would be nice if you have it. Thanks.

Have you ever seen a fan shroud on a 1974 Duster?

Hi Guys: The factory correct radiator for my 1974 Duster (225 auto non-a/c) is part number 3692973, which I have in my car. I noticed that there are four holes for what appear to be a fan shroud on the engine side of the radiator housing (see photos). These holes are 18.5 inches across horizontally and 15 inches apart vertically. Does this mean this radiator can accommodate a fan shroud? I’ve never seen one, but my factory parts manual says that there is one for this radiator, p/n 3691920….

Why did my headlights kill my car?

Hi Guys/Gals: Here’s a strange electrical failure that I’ve never seen before. About a year ago, I began having some issues with the hi beam/low beam selection on the headlights on my very stock 1974 Duster. All wiring is factory original, but the foot operated dimmer switch was replaced two years ago with a new Echlin part (DS-112 from NAPA). I began to notice a fault that would come and go. When driving at night in high beam, the headlights would go out. When I shifted to low beam, the…
