Why is my slanty chugging?

Hi All: Here’s one for you expert slant six tuners. I have an interesting thing happening with my 225 in my 1974 Duster (torqueflite auto). First of all, I just love the motor. It runs great and has plenty of power for my car. I’ve restored it completely stock. The replacement 1974 model year motor has 100K miles on it and has good compression. The head and valve train were overhauled 5K miles ago. The exhaust system is totally stock, including the resonator which came automatically with the…

Air cleaner temperature sensor question

Does anyone know of somebody selling an NOS air cleaner temp sensor for my 1974 Duster 225, part number 3514168? One for sale on e-Bay but really expensive. How about an equivalent part from Carter? Ideas? Thanks.

What about zinc?

Hi Guys/Gals. I have a very stock 1974 slant six engine in my 1974 Duster. Stock motor and heads, mix of town and highway driving. I change the oil about every 2500 miles. I use NAPA store brand 10W-40 oil in it year round, altho I don’t drive it outside in our Minnesota winters. I just warm it up in my garage. The NAPA store oil that I buy is API grade SP, repackaged Valvoline oil (at half the price – $11.99 for a five quart jug). This stuff is way better than what we had back in the day…

Does anyone repro 1974 Duster bench seat hinge covers?

My 74 Duster has the tan bench seat interior. Does anyone out there know where I could buy a pair of NOS or repro tan hinge covers? These are the plastic covers at the base of the seat back that covers the seat hinge point. Photos below. Many thanks!

Bob’s Component Resto Part 21: The Evaporative Emissions Control System

And how are my MOPAR kiddies this evening? Ready for bed soon, I trust. This evening’s sleeping pill covers a rarely discussed system which requires very little attention from the owner, the evaporative emissions control system (EECS). That’s a pretty long name for a charcoal canister. It seems that Uncle Sam decided that it wasn’t any good for our gas tanks to release gasoline vapor into the air, and thus the EECS showed up in the early seventies. This simple system sent fuel vapors from…

Success! Here’s what worked for my engine compartment paint restoration.

Moparites: First, thanks to all who responded to my post yesterday regarding what to do about removing the paint overspray from my engine compartment. There were many good suggestions there. I’ve hit on a winning combination that I’d like to share with the Mopar world. As I mentioned in my earlier post, the engine compartment of my 1974 Duster was full of overspray from a 1988 body repaint in it’s original color – JY9 Tahitian Gold Metallic. By 2021, the crud that covered the inner fenders,…
