Another Chrysler part in my Ford, question this time…

Got more research done on my Ford build. (Yeah, I know, I have a Dodge sitting in my garage who cares about the Ford, but if all goes well then they will be going simultaneously...), but since this truck was bought new by Grandad, passed on to Pop, and now I have it I kind of want to get going on it, mainly for sentimental purposes.
Anyway...need some help on it, and not from Ford guys. Advanced Adapters has a plate that will bolt up my inline to an NV4500. This will be a tow rig and cruiser, so the idea of having granny low and the OD puts a smile on my face. The Mazda piece and it's light duty weight and the ZF because of it's integral bell are not in the plans for this build. I want to keep stock linkage in place. But in emailing Advanced Adapters to check on the plate (it's listed for a small block and needed to make 100% sure it crossed over to my build) they recommended I hunt down one from a gas truck and not a diesel.
Why? Gearing? And in what trucks at the boneyard do I need to look for for the trans they are recommending?
