What would you do. Need advice.

Need some honest opinions. What would you do? Customer brings you a car running rough. You find that it has a couple can lobes wiped out. Pull pan and find main and rod bearings are bad due probably from can debris. Customer decides to bring another engine to you. He tells you it is a good engine that he had that has been sitting a couple of years. He wants cam changed in it and put into car. Everything fine. Runs good while breaking new cam in. Everything adjusted and looking good. You drive it a total of about 50 miles and everything seems great. Customer comes and gets car. He pays the bill and heads on his way. He calls a few minutes later and says it is making a hell of a noise. He gets about 10-12 miles away and something starts knocking. You go pick car up and listen to it, it sounds like something in bottom end.

What would you do? Would you cash the check he just paid you for the engine swap? What would you stand behind and what would you not. This is work I do on the side for extra cash and this one is driving me nuts. One problem after another. I know I should have rebuilt the engine I originally pulled, but customer didn't want to invest that extra cash. He buys/trades/sells these cars. He was hoping to make a good profit on this one, but I guess that is out of the question now.

Just looking for some good advice on what to do. Thanks everyone.
