Weird symptoms

Howdie all troubleshooters!

I've got a nagging idle problem with my 318 powered plow truck:

I'm barking up the ignition tree as I have the exact same problem when using a different carb off of my good running 318.

My 1973 318 (entirely stock) starts and runs well but tends to die at idle especially when hot. I have the stock electronic ignition with dual ballast resistor setup and for some reason the idling performance improves noticeably when turning the key to the start position (starter now operated with separate button) while idling.

New:
Cap
Rotor
Ballast resistor
Control module
Pickup
Reluctor

Sooo.......I'm thinking low voltage.

How do I feed the ballast 12 volts to bypass the ignition switch? I would not mind running it "race car" style with a dedicated on/off ignition toggle if it turns out my switch or wiring harness are caput.
