When the snow begins to fly this winter in East Troy, Wis., there will be 4,000 less old cars left to give their last bit of parts.
The 27-acre Troy Auto Parts in East Troy is closing, and the land it occupies must be completely cleared of its 4,000-plus-car inventory, which dates as far back as the 1950s.
“I would say we have about 30 or more cars back to the 1950s, and a whole bunch of 1960s and 1970s cars; 99 percent of them are American,” said Ryan Sie, a yard employee and the car guy who is organizing this final appeal to car collectors to fetch parts off the cars before they go to the graveyard in the sky.
“I have been putting cars off to the side that are worth saving,” Sie said. “When the time comes that they are getting in the way, then they will be crushed. This whole lot has to be cleared.”
The cars must be gone before winter, so time is of the essence. From the images posted on the yard’s Craigslist post, there appear to be several salvageable trim parts and even a usable panel or two. The inventory includes a 1958 Buick, Thunderbird “Squarebirds”, Chevrolet Impala and Bel Air models from the 1960s, and even a finned Imperial and a 1960s Imperial coupe, among many others.
