This Earl's Vapor Guard Filter goes usually between the tank and the fuel pump to catch larger particles to keep them from damaging the fuel pump. You should still put a high quality filter like Earl's 30 micron filter between the fuel pump and the carb to catch the fine stuff.
It is hard to see the upper nipple on the filter unless you look pretty hard. I will try to get a better pic tomorrow. But it looks just like the lower one.
