The wanderer

I think it may be normal but my 67 Sport Fury needs constant feedback when driving AT 65MPH. I can let go of the steering wheel and it will track straight and true for over a mile, but once I once I put my hands back on the steering wheel and make a correction I have to counter steer it the other way . It is not really bad. It is like it doesn’t self center. I remember Chryslers having a super sensitive 1 finger steer. It is getting better or I am getting more used to it the more I…

Steering wheel alignment after gear box change

I recently had my steering gear box rebuilt. The strong column came off easy but putting it back on was a challenge. Had to hammer it back on after. I had my car in a winter storage unit and had to do the repair fast. When i got it all hooked up the steering was way to left almost at 8 O’Clock. Instead of 12. It will be challenge to get that back off but my question is do i need to get that off and realign it better on that spline or will it be fine and i can just pull the steering wheel hub…

Front suspension thoughts please

I have begun work on the front end….but have not pulled the control arms for new bushings yet, they seem OK after checking. I replaced the lower ball joints and the shocks, as well as the steering joints, after replacing the steering gear box. Wh…

A Wrapup of Goodbye and Good Riddance

Hi everyone,
I wanted to share what I have learned over the last six weeks while working on my 1969 Fury III 318 droptop, and share some direct comparisons. I will try, but will most likely fail, to keep this short…

1) The previous owner had the car changed over from manual drum to SSBC discs up front, and a LEEDS power brake booster.

a) I think the system is garbage. On a normal day, stops fine. Panic situation, I’m going into whatever is in front of me. The leeds chinesium…

Replacing or rebuilding a Federal PS pump.

Greetings.

I have a Federal pump on my ’69 NY (original 440 with only 60K) which is slowly crapping out. It’s leaking slightly from the seal behind the pulley, and the shaft has some end play (very little, but you can hear it even with the belt still on). The leak is minor now, but I’m sure it will get worse.

There are rebuild kits, but should I replace it or rebuild it? Are there reliable sources for new/rebuilt pumps? Also….how does it come apart?

Is this an OK way to reinforce a front sub-frame?

My plan is to replace the front subframe in my ’67 Monaco with this one:

I’m showing here the underside rear passenger side. I would of course clean this frame up and paint it, but I want to go further.

I want to form this out of 3/16 plate steel:

And weld it to the frame:

Here’s a shot of the driver-side rear:

The yellow circle is where I think a lift-support is usually placed. On this side, for…

Which Wheel Covers Are Correct?

– ’72 Dodge Polara 4-dr. sedan.
– Currently has 15×5.5″ black steel wheels and Dodge “redline” aluminum poverty caps.
– Broadcast Sheet is correct for the car; “H SERIES 1972”; Build date 4/14/71 (414 = first 3 digits of V.O.N.; “CANADIAN SPEC” at the bottom.
– I verified some codes (in bold) using the ’69 – ’74 Mopar Broadcast Sheet book by Jake Hare.
– The codes I can’t verify are in italics and underlined.
– Line 4 “Wheels”: “Road” = 57 (15×5.5 painted C-body)…
