Michigan changes rules for Antique / Historic cars

Haggerty has a story about a recent change to Michigan’s rules on driving a car with historic license plates, or (I guess) otherwise registered as a “historic” vehicle.

Michigan’s laws were similar to Ontario (Canada) where if you register your car as historic, it severely limits how much and in what circumstances you can drive the car, presumably you are doing this because insurance companies recognize this designation and offer greatly reduced insurance rates and the trade-off is worth it…

1964 Chrysler (Windsor / Saratoga) 2-dr $24.5K CAD ($18k USD) Baie-Comeau Quebec

Actual location Rue Granier, Pointe-Lebel, QC, about 260 miles north-east of Quebec city right on the coast of the St. Lawrence river. Posted about a month ago, no idea if a repeat – repost.

From what I can tell, it has the grill of a Newport but the (wider) side trim of a 300K. This could be either a Chrysler Windsor or a Chrysler Saratoga (or Saratoga 300?).

Description…

Question about buying / sending USPS money orders

There are some people selling stuff that only want to deal with payment via USPS money orders.

Can this Canadian get an explanation as to how this is done if I’m making a quick trip to the US?

I understand that a MO can be bought at a post office or a kiosk. The hours at a post office are limited on weekends, but the kiosks are always open.

Because you can’t buy a MO with credit card, I guess I would have to use cash. Do Kiosks take cash?

I guess the recipients’s name / address…

Is this an OK way to reinforce a front sub-frame?

My plan is to replace the front subframe in my ’67 Monaco with this one:

I’m showing here the underside rear passenger side. I would of course clean this frame up and paint it, but I want to go further.

I want to form this out of 3/16 plate steel:

And weld it to the frame:

Here’s a shot of the driver-side rear:

The yellow circle is where I think a lift-support is usually placed. On this side, for…

Pitman arm – how is it named in parts manuals, was it the same from ‘6x to ’73?

I’m looking through various years of the parts manuals and I could totally be missing it but I don’t see the term “pitman arm” being used.

I do see “Steering Link Gear Arm”. Is that the pitman arm? They don’t show the arm itself in the exploded diagrams of the steering gear.

Is it the case for C-bodies from ‘6x to ’73 that this is the same part? I see some indication that maybe ’71 – ’73 is different than pre-71 ?

Would Chrysler have changed the part number across various years even…

2.75 vs 3 inch front brake shoe conversion – same spindle?

Was the 2.75″ front shoe the standard size for all non-wagon, non-440 C-bodies from ’65 right up to when disk brakes became standard?

I imagine that police or taxi or otherwise a “heavy duty” brake option would have given you the 3″ drums?

I see some 3″ drums on rockauto that are indicated as being for wagons? Thing is, I don’t think I’m seeing any 3″ shoes being listed.

If you wanted to beef up the front brakes a little, is it just a matter of throwing on the wider “wagon” drum, and…

Why was there a motor-mount change from ’65 to ’66 ?

The 1965 Plymouth service manual is the only ’65 manual I can find that shows frame dimensions.

I compare the 1965 Fury diagram with 1967. Since Fury had slant-6 and V-8 options for both years, I’m comparing the V-8 diagrams only.

65-67 frame pics close up..gif

The 1966 Chrysler and Monaco frame diagrams matches the above ’67 diagram, so the change or transition in the motor-mount detail happened between ’65 and ’66.

I believe that 1965 was the last year for the wedge 413 / 426 engines – yes? But…
