Guys/Gals: I need your paint restoration advice!

Hello all. I’m thinking of restoring the original engine compartment paint in my 1974 Duster. My car was repainted in its original color (JY9 Tahitian Gold Metallic) in 1988. The repaint still looks very good, but when they sprayed the car, a lot of paint overspray misted into the engine compartment. So the inner fenders are now covered in a dull looking coat of misted overspray that conceals the virgin original factory paint underneath. I’ve been told that by carefully hand sanding this…

How do you clean your slant six plugs, or do you even clean them at all?

Hi Guys: I run NGK ZFR-5N plugs in the totally stock 225 six in my 74 Duster. Rebuilt Holley 1945 runs well, air/fuel mixture and idle set to factory specs, timing at 10 degrees before. The engine has 95K miles on it. The plugs seem to foul a bit after about 11000 miles, so I just bought a pneumatic spark plug cleaner from Harbor Freight. It didn’t work very well, even when used as directed. Why would a healthy engine foul the plugs this soon? The accompanying photo shows the plugs after 11K…

Bob’s Component Resto, Part 20: Body Corrosion Control

Good evening, friends. You’re probably just settling in for some light bedtime reading after enjoying a lovely dinner prepared by your wife, right? I thought so. So here’s the latest chapter to make you good and sleepy before you retire for the evening. As we all know, fighting rust is a constant battle with our vintage MOPAR rides. Chrysler products were notorious for rapidly rusting , and so tonight we’ll examine the steps that I’ve taken to ensure that my 1974 Gold Duster enjoys a long…

My bothersome shimmy went away. Yay!

MOPAR brethren (and sisterhood): I’m posting the following for what it’s worth, in the hopes that it may help someone else. My 1974 Duster that I bought in 2019 with 238K miles had a noticeable shimmy (wobble) in the steering wheel above 55 mph. You could also feel the wobble in the car the faster you drove. I had all four wheels rebalanced, but that didn’t help. The only front end components that weren’t factory original were the lower ball joints. What did help was rebuilding the front…

Can you top my 8-Track collection?

MOPAR Friends: My 1969 Charger came from the factory with the code R22 AM/8-Track radio (see photos). And yes, it’s one of the few factory 8-track players that still work. Naturally, I wanted a diverse selection of music to play, so I’ve been collecting 8-track cartridges for many years. As of this morning, I have 358 of them, all of which work. I’ve found a way to disassemble and repair them when the tapes break (usually at the signal tape splice) or when the foam pressure pads crumble. I’m…

Can you identify my starter? (PROBLEM SOLVED)

Hi Guys: A few years ago I replaced the starter in my slant six powered 1974 Duster. I do not believe that it was the factory original starter when I removed it. I’m curious now and am wondering if anyone can identify what year this starter was made, and what models it was used on. On the black cylindrical motor housing is the part number: 3755900 . Below this part number is the number 24. On the cast aluminum drive housing are the following: A word encircled by an oval with the word…
