Wrong Balancer Bolt?

I was installing the harmonic balancer on the 383 this morning (forged crank) and noticed that the retaining bolt bottoms out before the balancer is seated all the way in. It will only pull the balancer in to barely reaching the timing tab on the cover. Could it be that I have a bolt for a cast crank balancer and they are a little longer? The one I have measures 2.2 inches from the bottom of the head to the end of the threads.

Cost for 727?

What do you guys think I can expect to pay for a 727 core and a decent rebuild? The 383 should make around 400 horse and I would guess around 440 foot pounds or so. I just want the tranny to shift a little firmer than stock and will probably go with around a 2400-2600 stall convertor. Cores around here will probably fetch around 50-75 bucks or so but I dont know what I should expect for a rebuild. Thanks!

Big Block A Body Oil Pan Wanted

I’ve responded to one thread already but I’ll start a new one. I need an oil pan and pickup for my 383 going in my 71 dart (187 or 699 I believe). If you could include shipping to 29650 in your price that would be great. Oh, and if you have the bolts for it too that would be a plus. I went to Lowes this morning and didnt have any luck.

Garage Sale

Trying to clean out the garage and make a little money to spend on the 383. I hate E-Bay and would rather let you guys make me some fair offers on this stuff to get rid of it. Dont worry about offending me but keep in mind I’m working on a project too and every little bit helps. I cant post pics here for some reason so heres a link to what I’ve got. Prop valve was cleaned up and is ready to go, caps are really nice, bushings you see are LCA polys. Thanks for the ad FABO. Feel free to PM…

Intake Manifold Gaskets

Was wondering if the steel valley pan gasket was enought to seal an Edelbrock Performer 383 manifold to the heads or if yall recommend using additional gaskets to help it seal??? Any insight is appreciated.

Cam Re-Break In?

The 383 I bought was supposed to have a couple hundred miles on it. I took it apart to find out more about the bottom end. The question is, when you take cam out after it has been broken in initially, should you smear it up with break in lube again and add some ZDDP additive or just coat it with oil and stick it in there with the lifters in the same bores that they came out of?
