Yeh. I know what you were thinkin. In my world THIS is homebrew, as in "homebrew project". Found this in a thrift store for 8 bucks. I haven't opened it up yet. Appears to be an amateur radio 6 meter band (50 mhz) transmitter. Probably built in the 50's or early 60's. Be interesting to go through some of the old ham manuals of the era and see if it was a project in QST, CQ or the Bill Orr radio handbook.
