Fellow Texans, I need some advice. My dog was curious about an armadillo that was rutting around in a flower bed. What she apparently didn't know was that armadillos repel other critters by secreting a horrible smelling musk. It doesn't smell like skunk, but rather like overheated rubber electrical cord, or a slipping rubber drive belt. When the repulsive smell woke me up at 0200 last night, I searched the house looking for the source of the smell. My poor dog accompanied me on the search and I finally realized it was her, not a shorted appliance!
I've tried washing her with detergent, oat meal based dog shampoo, and dusting her with baking soda, and she still reeks. A website that offered deodorizing hints said don't bother using tomato juice, as it does nothing more than make a mess.
Does anyone have a solution for de-scenting her fur?
Besides being blind, stupid and suicidal, I learned that armadillos smell as bad as they look, and they are now at the top of my hit list!
