Sept 3 Devotion

“I JUST DON’T HAVE THE TIME!”

The Psalmist wrote, “All our days pass away under your wrath; we finish our years with a
moan. The length of our days is seventy years -- or eighty, if we have strength;
yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away”
(Psalm 90:9-10, NIV).

Life is brief. If you do not believe it, ask yourself, “Where has the last decade gone?” James asked,
“For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth
away”
(James 4:14).
Have you ever said, in reference to doing something, “I just don’t have
the time!” We are all cognizant of how swiftly time flies
.
Life, in being brief, is also unpredictable. Solomon wrote, “Boast not thyself of tomorrow;
for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth”
(Proverbs 27:1).
Warrick said,
“There is nothing so certain in life as death, nothing so uncertain as the time of dying.”

Because of the uncertainty of life we must take the time to live for God faithfully for we will,
one day, take time to die! The Psalmist set forth the realization that it is not the quantity of our life, but the quality
of life that is really important.

“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts . . .O satisfy us early with thy mercy;
that we may rejoice and be glad all our days” (Psalms 90:12, 14). We must see our God given time
wisely by seeking to live for God.
Are you taking time to: Worship God? Serve God daily? Read His Word? Teach others of His love?
Be kind to others? Be the right kind of husband/father, wife/mother, parent, child?
Read carefully the following poem entitled, “NO TIME.” The author is unknown.

I knelt to pray but not for long. I had too much to do.
Must hurry off and get to work for bills would soon be due.
And so I said a hurried prayer, jumped up from off my knees.
My Christian duty now was done, my soul could be at ease.
All through the day I had not time to speak a word of cheer.
No time to speak of Christ to friends.
They would laugh at me, I feared.
No time, no time, too much to do. That was my constant cry.
No time to give to those in need. At last was time to die.
And when before the Lord I came, I stood with downcast eyes.
Within His hand, God held a book. It was the Book of Life.
God looked within His book and said, “Your name I cannot find.
I once was going to write it down, But never found the time.”

Have you taken the time to obey the Gospel of Christ? (c.f. Romans 6:3-4) Are you
taking the time to live faithfully for the Lord? If not, take the time TODAY
to get right with God! :angel:

Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2).
