I pulled the center section out of the rear end of my '65 Fury to replace it with a Sure Grip. To get the axles out, I pulled the backing plates from the axle housing. The axles are held in by a retaining ring on the brake side of the backing plate. In between the axle housing and the back side of the backing plate is a gasket that looks to be make out of whitish plastic, which Napa had in stock.
