My cam, is there any hope

I have been working with my carbs for 2 days trying to get them dialed in.
440 with a pair of 600 edelbrocks. I know a lot of my trouble is with my torque converter being to tight. I put the Hughes cam in and it runs great. Specs for lift are in .518 ex .518 Duration is in 232 ex 245. I know the long duration is what is messing with me too. My main issue is with trying to get my car to keep a some what consistent idle. I have been focusing more on the primary side and will worry about the power side later. I was running progressive linkage but am finding with this cam. It seems to run better with both carbs hooked together. So that is how they are now.
I have .104 main jets in. The car seems to run best with 70/52 metering rods.
With them. I have the idle set at about 1300 rpm and the car will drop to 500 in gear. Doesn't matter if I have the dist connected to manifold vacuum or ported. I have tried 6 different jet and metering combo to get where I am now.
I have the .104 jets and 73/47 rods in. Idle is better, but running wise. it was stronger with the 70 metering rods.
I have tried going from the orange springs to the yellow. I am wondering if maybe the blue may be what I need? My thoughts are a lighter spring will help insure it stays on the idle circuit. I have about 7 in vacuum at idle. Running is closer to 9 At speed closer to 15. This is with ported vacuum.
The reason I am back on ported is I have less issues when decelerating. All is good till I reach about 1,000 rpm, The the car acts like ti doesn't know if it should go or stop. The whole car vibrates because it is like it is caught in between the idle circuit and the power circut if that makes any sence. I am still learning here and know I am getting an education from this. I probably have used about a 1/2 tank of gas messing with this. Any ideas where I may start next or just deal with it as it is. A side not. It doesn't matter what my idle is at. once I put it in gear. I am at 500 rpm. I didn't have this issue with my last cam. Also, if I lower the idle and put it in gear. it is fine for about a minute then drops to where I have to give it a little gas. If I can just get it so it runs and idles consistent. I will be ok with it. I know the cam is a little big for the street now. But this is just a toy now and not a daily driver. So I can deal with it being a little temperamental.
The springs go like this
Blue = 3 in hg
yellow = 4in hg
orange = 5in hg
pink = 7in hg
Silver = 8in hg

So, if any of this makes sense. Any ideas
