Any point in using an X or H pipe?

I changed the mufflers on my car but I am now looking at possibly changing a few other pipes as well. Is there a good reason to use an H or X pipe? When I stand behind the car when it is idling the new Dynomax mufflers sound nice BUT sound a little lik…

Today I decided to check my spark plugs. I had them changed many years ago but drove the car so little that I didn’t see much need to check them. I’ve made a few changes on the car and thought it would be good to see how they look. Anyone with a 440 knows the 7 & 8 plugs are no joy to access and change. They aren’t the worst I’ve done by a long way but still not something one looks forward to like a child on Christmas morning. I got to the 5th plug and took it out. All the other plugs…

Muffler recommendations please

I need to replace the mufflers on my 1970 300. I had them replaced maybe 400 miles ago but I then blew them up by doing a bad job installing a distributor. I can’t find the brand of these mufflers but they sound really good and I’d like a similar sound. They are basic looking mufflers but gave a louder sound than stock. I’m pretty sure they are just a chambered muffler type with a louder tone. There is a part number on them but no results while googling. The place that did them closed up so…

Blew up mufflers. 70 440 HP 300

Several years ago I changed the dizzy on my 300. I f’ed up the install and filled my mufflers with gas fumes. Then I filled them with a spark and they blew up :). Very fewiles have been put on the car since doing this and I lived with it. Now I’m driving it more and the tinny noise bothers me. I also feel like the insides of the mufflers may be blocking the exhaust and hurting the power. Has anyone had this occur? I had a 74 Malibu that had a collapsed muffler once and it completely killed…

Speedometer doesn’t work

My 1970 300 speedometer stopped working years ago. Being driven about 50 miles a year it wasn’t a big concern. Now I plan on driving it much more so I replaced the cable which was broken at the cluster connector. The cable wouldn’t clip into the speedometer so I thought replacing it had to be the fix. Well now that the instrument cluster is back in I find it still doesn’t budge off zero. Is there a common problem that happens to these?
Thanks

Power steering pump problem(s)

The reman PS pump on my 70 300 is making a lot of noise. It makes a slight wining when going straight but when steering right or left it really makes a racket. In addition to this noise, which I’ve had before in this car and others, the fluid is milky as if it’s been aerated AND the steering wheel pulsating badly unless the fluid is Topped off to a level half way up the neck. At this moment I can’t remember which pump it is but I’m pretty sure it’s the chrysler/federal /1.06 pump.
Is it…

1970 300 steering column/wheel not straight???

This is awful to admit but my steering column isn’t straight and I never noticed it before. I dropped the column down to remove the instrument cluster and put it all back together, finally, about a week ago. Today was the first chance I had to actually sit in the car and I noticed that the steering wheel isn’t square with the rest of the car. The column isn’t either and, unless I am missing something very unusual, that’s how it was built. If I put a straight edge against the wheel it doesn’t…
