Pistol cal. carbines

I've always been somewhat enamored of the idea of carrying a handgun and long gun that are of the same caliber. I used to pack a Ruger Super Redhawk in 454 Casull and a mildly sporterized .45 Colt lever when hiking or camping in bear country. I also had a. 44 mag Rossi lever and a companion 7.5" barrelled Super Blackhawk that went with me on javalina hunts. The guns were heavy, ammo and cartridge belts (leather, f**k nylon) weighed quite a bit too.

Now I'm wanting a .40 or .45 acp carbine to go with a semiauto pistol. I've never been a 9mm fanboy, and don't own one now...ALTHOUGH. ..I've been considering one because when the end of the world comes, I figure most of the ammo I strip from dead enemies will be of the 9x19 persuasion.
Marlin used to make a "Camp Carbine" in 45 and 9 but for some reason disco'd it and they're impossible to find used.
Beretta makes its PX4 in pistol and rifle, available in 9, 40, and 45, and interchange magazines. A cool combo that's on the short list.
There's a compromise when using a rimless pistol caliber round in a long gun, I'm aware of that. These are close quarters, defensive weapons, not 1000 yd National Match competition pieces.
So, there's others out there...I think Sig, Remington, and S&W have similar offerings, but I've been out of the "gun game" for awhile so I'm soliciting opinions. They vary, and I'm predicting this to be a multi-page thread.
