An Out-of-Focus Life
Read Ezekiel 25:1 through 28:19; Hebrews 12:1–29
It’s easy for someone to focus on material possessions and the things he or she does well. But when people count on those things to bring them favor in the eyes of God, God has a warning.
Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings (Ezekiel 28:17).

These words were spoken to an ancient king who focused on amassing a fortune. He acted like a god because of all he had achieved for himself and his kingdom. God had indeed blessed him, but he failed to honor God as he boasted about his splendor and wisdom. His focus was on himself instead of God.
That is certainly an easy mind-set to fall prey to in today’s world. In a do-it-yourself/pull-yourself-up-by-your-own-bootstraps culture, it’s easy to live out of focus with what God has done, taking credit for the good things that happen. Easier still is the mind-set to focus on the wrong things as a way to happiness.
Prayer Suggestion: Lord, help me keep my focus on You, and help me to praise You for the things You’ve done for me.
