Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1

NORWALK, Ohio - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Fifth annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.890/185.89, Now #1

1:04 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 67 degrees, relative humidity 65 percent, barometer 28.98 inches, adjusted altitude 2,243 feet, track temperature 81 degrees.

Haddock had a hole out on the left side at the hit, gets about 500 feet out and loses a few more. The pipes go wet and he gives up on the run.

Left Lane: Daniel Wilkerson Runs 6.214/124.43, Now #3
Right Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 5.571/141.37, Now #2

Wilkerson makes a move toward the wall early, gets about 300 feet out and backs off the throttle. Creasy gets a little further, starts drifting to the right, then backs off the throttle early.

Left Lane: Jon Capps Runs 8.609/72.89, Now #5
Right Lane: Brian Thiel Runs 4.256/292.52, Now #1

Capps gets out of the groove early, makes a move to the left, then backs off the throttle. Thiel makes a clean run and takes the early pole.

Left Lane: Bob Bode Runs 4.205/291.57, Now #1
Right Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 10.588/73.82, Now #7

Troxel goes up in smoke at the hit and has to back off the throttle. She rolls about 300 feet, stabs the throttle one time and coasts through the lights. Bode goes right down the groove with a nice run to move into the top spot for now.

Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 4.184/306.26, Now #1
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.194/280.25, Now #2

Lee makes a clean run to take the top spot for now. Pedregon was out in front through most of the run, then the pipes went wet just a little before he reached the finish line and he slowed.

Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.199/295.53, Now #4
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.164/294.75, Now #1

Wilkerson makes a nice run but lost a cylinder just before he crossed the finish line. Head went right down the groove but was falling behind all the way through the run.

Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 5.922/242.84, Now #10
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.095/299.26, Now #1

Gray goes up in smoke at the hit, rolls about 200 feet, then gets back on the throttle. Capps makes a good run, right down the groove, and he takes the pole for now.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.097/307.51, Now #2
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.143/304.05, Now #3

A good side-by-side here, both right down the groove. Force gets in the second spot for now, Tasca right behind in third.

Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 7.164/83.39, Now #15
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.106/304.32, Now #3

Arend gets about 300 feet out, has traction problems, then gives up on the run. Hagan makes a clean run and gets in the third spot for now.

Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 5.688/125.59, Now #14
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.065/306.53, Now #1

Pedregon gets about 300 feet out and strikes the tires. Hight makes a great run and moves into the top spot for now.

Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.188/244.16, Now #9
Right Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.110/309.06, Now #5

Beckman was on a decent pass but blew the engine as he went through the lights. Neff made a decent run to get in the fifth spot.
