Engine Development

I have been accumulating parts for some time now. I wanted to make one more run at the A mod stuff, but the stupid rules require a combination that isn't really in favor of the Mopar engine. So I have been playing around with different combinations of the parts that I have. This is the same engine with two different intakes on it. It is a high compression 340 + 0.060" with W2 heads.

The rules allow a roller cam, but this is a high lift flat tappet setup. This intake for the green HP line is an old Edelbrock Scorpion. It makes less average torque than the Holley Strip Dominator (red line), but when you take the gearing into account the higher revving engine wins out. We have a rpm limit of 8,500 rpm. I don't plan to run it that hard, but that is what some of the other racers do.

I use the Engine Analyzer Pro V3.5 to check out different combinations. It isn't perfect, but it gives relative numbers for comparison. Typically when I take the heads to the flow bench, then mock up the engine very carefully on the computer, the results are within 5% on the dyno.:king:
