Engine Breather?

I have a 76 Cordoba Bomber with a 360, The engine is all stock, It has the factory style breather on the right side that has the hose to the air cleaner, the last race out I packed the track with no problem, I started 4th in the heat and made it to 1st with 3 laps to go, I got hit on the side and spun through the infeild, I finished the race with no power loss or anything, then when I came back into the pits and smoke started rolling out from under the hood, the hose from the breather was blowing oil into the air cleaner and it was getting sucked into the carb. We cleaned out as much oil as we could, and I shoved a rag in the breather hose and stuck it to the firewall. I went back out for the dash for cash and by the 2nd lap it was smoking so bad I couldn't see, so I pulled back into the pits and as soon as I got back to my pit stall the car died and I killed the battery trying to crank it again, there was oil dripping out of the hose, so we pushed it on the trailer. I thought I might have a cracked head or something. the next day I went to unload the car and it fired no problem and I drove it for about 10 or 15 minutes with no problem. I race asphalt and dirt with the same car and during a heat race on asphalt the air filter filled with oil, but it was only once, I was wondering if there could be an engine problem with the heads or something, or if its all a problem from the breather? I don't want to tear into the motor if I don't have too, but its a 2 hour tow to the track so I wanna fix it or duplicate it off track so I can be good to go the next time I race it. I'm sorry for the long message but I wanted to give as much info as I could, I'm hoping somebody has a fix, thanks
