OUR GOD REIGNS!
“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’”........Isaiah 52:7
In 1973, Leonard Smith found himself at a dead end. The thirty-one year old from Riverton, New Jersey had dropped out of seminary and had been fired from several high school teaching jobs. He was unhappy having to paint houses to support his family.
One night as he was reading Isaiah 52 he was overwhelmed by the conviction that God was in control of his life and of all creation.
When he came to the phrase “Your God reigns!” Leonard remembers: “I immediately thought of Jesus’ feet. I realized most people think of missionaries when they read verse 7, but that never entered my mind. As I read the passage and came to the words “Your God Reigns!” it seemed as if the Lord definitely spoke to my heart. His message to me was “I know you are out of work, I know you are depressed, and I know you feel like a failure, but these are my doings. I will bring you through this and you will shine as the sun. Everything is fine!”
Leonard was inspired to write the praise song “Our God Reigns!” within 5 minutes of this thought. He was the worship leader at his church and taught it to the congregation the following Sunday. Soon the praise song “Our God Reigns!” became a popular hymn worldwide.
The Lord brings us through tough times so we can know that we can trust in Him. Today in prayer, praise the Lord that He reigns in every circumstance throughout the world. :angel:
