Checking my ECU?

In IMCA Hobby Stock we're required to run a factory-type ignition system (yes, an HEI is legal, but that's not the point of this post). Is there any way to check a Mopar electronic ignition's ECU (or ECM...I've heard it called both) to see if it's functioning properly? In my experience it seems that they either work or they don't.

I just don't want to have to waste another race by simply swapping one for another if there is a way to check the one we have.

Any suggestions?
