Looking for M Body headliner rods, or alternatives.
Finally got round to the interior of my 1984 Fifth Avenue.
It needs a headliner, all I have is the two longitudinal bars that run down the each side of the roof and the front bar by the windshield. That’s it, nothing else at all.
I have taken the car to a few upholstery shops, a couple are willing to make a headliner for me but insist I must provide the rods going across the roof.
They appear to be made of unobtanium, even in the USA. Anyone got a link to a source?.
Or can they be made if…
Lots of work behind me….lots more ahead again.
Mechanically my 5th Avenue should be fine now, after a reground crank, new oil pump, timing chain & sprockets, and a rebuilt transmission. The brakes work fine, recored radiator, some new steering parts and a busy day with a grease gun.
So today I took it for a drive, the speedometer doesn’t work, in fact it makes a tinkling rattling noise and the needle just flickered as I drove it – speed related. Disconnecting the cable stopped the noise. The fuel gauge doesn’t work and some of the…
M Body Brake switch removal.
Hello again guys.
The brake lights on my 1984 Fifth Avenue don’t work, I checked the bulbs, all good, so I turned to the switch. The plunger seems to be sticking, I got it moving but not enough to make contact, no surprise there.
How do I remove the switch?, can it be overhauled?. I cant go to the nearest auto parts store and get one and want to use the car this month.
Thanks in advance,
Roger

Oil for my 318.
This may seem a daft question, but I can’t find anywhere on this forum that tells me what oil I need for my car. It’s a 1984 Fifth Avenue with a 318 btw.
Also what are the correct tire pressures please?.
Sometimes the simplest of problems can be the hardest to answer!.
Roger.
Got some work ahead of me…..
I hauled my 1984 Fifth Avenue home a couple of days ago, a non runner with good paint.
To get it off the trailer some basic faultfinding found a bad coil. Remarkably, a local auto parts store had a suitable replacement – I’m in the UK – so I was able to get it unloaded and parked in my driveway.
Pouring some water into the radiator quickly established a freeze plug either missing or leaking at the back of the engine, well the exhaust manifold gaskets are shot, as I suspect is the rest of…
