Front end squeak: Ball Joint or Torsion Bar Bushing?

Hi Folks. My ’87 5th Ave is in pretty good shape, with now 128K miles. Ever since I got it 4 years ago the front right of the car squeaks like crazy over any bump, or even getting in and out of the car. A horror-movie-door hinge sound. Makes the car seem a beater even if the rest of it is good.

Here’s my question. What are the odds that the squeak is caused by the upper (or lower) ball joint vs. by the torsion bar bushing? The suspension is all original except for new shocks…

’87 5th ave. No Spark to plugs, Yes Spark from coil.

Hi folks. My ’87 Fifth Avenue was running just great when I parked it a few days ago. Then the next day it would not start (turns over well, smells like gas). I started testing and found that there was no spark. BUT when I test for spark directly f…

Rear Door NOT Stuck!

Hi Guys,

Well, yesterday something went wrong with the left rear door on my ’87 5th Avenue. It acts like the door can’t be unlocked; it won’t open from inside or out. The lock button moves up and down manually or with the power locks and it feels li…

Fuel pump leak?

Hi Gang! I got Marty (’87 5th, stock) running really well now (I tried absolutely everything; finally drilling out, cleaning and adjusting mixture screws did the trick). But he’s also developed a strong smell of gas while running. It does NOT seem t…

A/C Seals at Drier (’87 5th Ave.)

Has anyone else had trouble getting the joint between the a/c lines and the drier/desicant jar to seal? I have a new drier, new lines and new seals (the original flat black metal gaskets) but I still have a "massive" leak at this junction. …

87′ 5th – Test 6280 Mixture Solenoid?

Hi Guys,

I am in the process of rebuilding the Holley 6280 carb on my ’87 5th avenue. Before I put it all back together I would like to test the idle mixture solenoid. But how? Cant find anything about this. Can I just put 12V + and – to the terminals and see if it clicks? Which would be + and – ? Sure don’t want to burn it out if it is okay.

BTW, it’s a Cali car in Cali, so changing to a 2280 is not an option.

Thanks,

Removing Outside Vinyl Triangle, 87 5th Ave

Hi Guys,

I want to fix the broken opera lamp on my 87 5th Ave. I’ve seen the great detailed sticky thread, but it doesn’t say how to separate the outside triangular vinyl panel on the rear door, behind which the opera lamp sits. Also it looks like the 88 (in the sticky) and 87 are different, as in the 87 triangle is a little shorter and actually has a hidden piece of glass inside.

I was able to get opera lamps out of a junkyard car, but not without mangling the mounting of the triangles….
