New Voltage Regulator at 15V?
I put in a new engine wiring harness and when I took the voltage regulator off the firewall to clean, I saw the potting compound was melting out. Got a new VR from NAPA and when the engine is running, I’m getting 15.05V. Seems a bit high?
On the good side, the ammeter needle is steady and in the middle. Memory says the old VR usually ran low to mid 14 volts (14.1 – 14.6) and the ammeter was always bouncing on the charge side. Voltage was definitely not as stable as the new one has it….
SBM Distributor overhaul DIY?
I’m going through my distributor to clean out 40 years of gunk and install the FBO limit plate and springs. Is there a DIY around here that gives the basics for disassembly, lubrication points and such? I know it’s not rocket science but….
How do I decide which springs to install? I have three different wire sizes.
Small Block Header(s)
Kind of an unusual request. I need passenger side E-body small block header only. Current one got caught on trailer while being loaded, which bent it down at the collector. It was low to begin with, really low now. I don’t really care what brand or finish. Somewhat local to SE Wisconsin and cheap are desirable traits. Might take a full set if deal is right.
Cast Aluminum Valve Covers Leaking
Had a grungy set of M/T valve covers on the engine and replaced them with the new polished Mopar ones I got with the car. The old ones never leaked, they are just ugly. Used new cork Fel-Pro gaskets and ARP bolt kit. First, it took several tightening cycles to the bolts to hold torque as the gaskets seated. Now the bolts stay tight, but I’ve still got a leak at the rear of the head. The leak runs down the block and drips on the headers and it’s getting anoying seeing and smelling the…

Fast Idle Speed Target
What’s a good target rpm for fast idle? New AVS2 with electric choke just installed. Old carb didn’t idle well and had manual choke. Pretty much stock 340 with automatic. It fired up at 2000rpm and I backed it down to 1500 but that still seems high. Will set the hot idle around 750/800 but have to fix a fuel line leak first.
