Drivers side frame rail for 1966 Chrysler

Looking at the crumbling remains of the drivers side rail on Mathilda. I plan to "splint" it this weekend, just for short term until I can get a good rail to replace it.

Gratefully,

Gerald

$pecialty Tool$ for Timing chain replacement?

Greetings Learned Elder Moparians!

Health, Felicity, Strong Vacuum to ye all,

Planning to replace Mathilda’s timing set Turkeyday, I wonder if I should invest in a harmonic balancer installer bolt/thrust bearing now to insure a good install. I have a decent puller, which resembles the one depicted in the FSM pretty well in fact, but the only 3/4″-16 bolt I have on hand besides the three for their respective crankshafts around here is one for my old Greenlee knockout punches. This bolt…

Fitment & performance Trial on MOP753A Radiator on 1966 Chrysler Newport

Greetings Cold Case & C Body Moparians!

Having purchased their MOP753A radiator from Cold Case explicitly as a First Five Customer, I now present for all and sundry my report on the fitment and performance of this radiator on Mathilda, our 1966 Chrysler Newport 2 door hard top coupe, running a 383 2-bbl engine with a 727 Torqueflite automatic transmission, no air conditioning or power brakes, but power steering.

Water mist “injection” at the breather…good, bad or worthless idea?

Driving daily in a normally hot, arid climate like Tucson, AZ, even after turning out my idle jets to enrich the fuel/air mixture, retarding the timing to -15 degrees BTDC, and purchasing 91 octane petrol when affordable, I’m oft plagued by knocks when accelerating, especially in the heat of the day.

By contrast, when it rains, Mathilda acts like Chuck Berry’s “Maybelline” and I suspect for the same reason: a slight addition of water mist to the fuel/air mixture cools the air down,…

Perfectly Rebuilt Stromberg WWC for < $60!

Another Happy Surprise From ePay! I bought this some months ago, seeing a nasty little puddle on my intake manifold under the bowl of my Stromberg WWC. Found another of the same vintage, 2-272 claiming to have been rebuilt. It looked rebuilt and for ~ $55 I figured I’d done well. I already had purchased the Hygrade 339 kit from Rock with intent of re-doing my current carb when the puddle became a pond….

The puddle expanded this past August, dropping my in town gas mileage from 11 mpg…

Mathilda gets new shoes….

Replaced drums, shoes, cylinders, hoses and bearings for the front yesterday and today to eliminate a nasty pull to the left, which the FSM advised a course pretty like this to remedy. It did. Used mostly Raybestos stuff from Rock Auto, though I bought shoes from the local VatoZone as they have their lifetime warranty.

For shoes that is well and good, and what they sold me for the rear has served admirably enough so far. ONE MISTAKE I’ll soon enough rectify was assuming that their…

Sway bar link for 1966 C body

I noticed the threads on one of my links are broken/worn off to the point that a nut will just barely grip. I can try running a 5/16 – 18 die over it, sure, but I don’t think there is enough good steel left to really warrant this with any confidence. Anybody have one or 2? I saw something on ePay recently, pricey! Hoping there might be a lone link looking for a good home….
