Seat belt interlock experts, where are you?

Hi All: I have a very stock slant six powered 1974 Duster. I’m one of the few guys in the whole world who likes everything to work on my car – including the seat belt interlock system. I can start my car in park or neutral with the driver’s belt unfastened. If I slide over to the middle or the right side of the front seat and don’t buckle up, the car will not start. The warning buzzer goes off, and the red “SEAT BELT” light illuminates on the dashboard. As soon as I slide back into the…

I’m so proud of my air cleaner!

Okay, this is a bit weird, but I just reconditioned the original air cleaner on my 1974 slant six Duster. Here’s the photo. It looked horrible and rusty, so I bead blasted it and repainted in in satin black, just like as it was built. I think I’ve figured out the correct orientation of the snorkel. It forms a straight like with the oil breather hose, and the recess in the front faces the front of the car perfectly. That’s where I put the repro air cleaned decal. Now I just have to clean up…

1974 Duster Gold A-Pillar right side trim wanted

Hi Duster fans: I’m looking for a very nice A-pillar interior trim cover for the passenger (right) side for my 1974 Gold Duster. This is the trim piece that covers the windshield post on the right side of the dash. The ones I’ve seen so far are quite old, chalky and crumbling. Does anyone out there have a really nice one? Preferably in Gold, but I could dye it if I had to. Please let me know – photos would be nice if you have them. Bob in Minneapolis MN 612 202-5471. Thanks!

Trying to get rid of crusty crud.

Mopar Faithful: I’m trying to detail the engine compartment of my 74 Duster. The problem is that the inner fenders are caked with a crusty crud that I can’t remove (see attached file). I think its a combination of dirt, sanding dust, old dead paint and motor oil. I can’t seem to get rid of it, and I know there’s beautiful virgin paint underneath. Any ideas for products and techniques that might clean this up and reveal the factory paint job? Thanks.

Repairing damaged vinyl on a Duster door panel

Has anyone found a good technique for repairing damaged vinyl on a door pad? I have a 74 Gold Duster with the deluxe interior trim package. That means that the gold / tan drivers door panel has a rectangular vertical woodgrain panel in it. They’re very expensive to buy new, and they only come in pairs. I have a small torn, cracked and separated area at he bottom edge of the driver’s door panel. Nothing major – I’d like to repair it myself. Any ideas as to how to do a decent repair? Heating…

Okay, what is this greasy felt thing in my door?

Hi All: Question of the day. I was just cleaning and lubricating the manual crank window mechanism on the driver’s door of my 74 Duster. On the top of the slider that goes up and down a circular rail to lift and lower the driver’s window, there was an icky felt – like circle that was completely encased in window grease. It slid up and down on top of the slider mechanism and rode up and down the circular rail. Has anyone seen one of these in their car? What does it do? Is it supposed to be…

What mileage does your slant six powered ride get?

Yeah, I know. It’s been asked a million times, but here goes once again. I’m wondering if I should get better mileage in my extremely stock 74 Duster with the 225 auto and Holley 1945 stock carb. Timing is factory 0.0 TDC. Everything stock under the hood and in the drive train. I get 14.5 in the city and 16.5 on the highway. Is this normal? Or too low? BTW, I put the car on a chassis dyno and got 79 rear wheel horsepower form this 50K mile motor. Thoughts?
