still flooding

1970 318 Polara auto, Carter BBD.
Its been a problem for a while, I’ve tried cleaning carb and tank, fresh needles, check float height etc but the carb still floods after the engine has been run, i.e start the engine, let it run /drive for a while til…

Horn contact

Is it possible to replace the horn contact on an aftermarket column switch assy? Fed up with the plunger scraping and jamming, thinking along the lines of a carbon plunger, powdrill brush block thing.

dead carb.

Well the carb on my 1970 318 Polara has finally given up. It’s only 50 years old for goodness sake, don’t make them like they used to…..etc,etc…(butterfly screw head vanished, leaking from shaft etc )
So I need a replacement for a Carter 2249/2027 (4895S) plenty around but which to avoid? Is it worth sending the daughter out to rummage in breakers? ( Lives in Grand Prairie TX).
I live in the UK so not really practical to send for rebuild or core deposit. Any help greatfully received.

Fuel starvation

The ongoing saga of engine cutting out….1970 318 Polara auto, once again the Polara died,as usual at a busy junction. So here’s what I found after a bunch of folk helped push it clear.
Spark at plugs
Plugs were dry
Had residual fuel pressure at the carb fuel inlet.
Near empty float chamber.
We had driven about 40 miles with no problems, lights ,heater on.put it back together drove home sweet as anything.
Had carb rebuild after last event with new floats, set up as per.new points, condenser….

Its been a problem for a while, I’ve tried cleaning carb and tank, fresh needles, check float height etc but the carb still floods after the engine has been run, i.e start the engine, let it run /drive for a while till warm shut down, the carb floods to the point where fuel is present around the gasket seams.
My thoughts are float/needle sticking open, float holed, choke. Either way if I try to restart the car its flooded. It has also cut out on decel.

sealant or not ?

still having issues with a fuel weep from the carb joints so I’ll be stripping it again ( found someone with an ultrasonic cleaner so it’ll be taking a bath as well ).
question is do I use sealant on the body joints? don’t want to go down the tweak the screws route. I intend to try to reface the joints with the wet/dry paper on some glass and check float heights again. I used to use red Hermatite on my Amal carbs and never had one leak, understand it’s no longer available, have tried…

What do I have?

I feel I have not what I thought, I need to replace the rad in our 1970 Polara318. The new rad has the hose positions on opposite sides, as I had trouble getting the correct size belts I’ m wondering if the engine is from something else? With the original rad everything lined up perfectly, has Aircon if that makes any difference. Thoughts please.
