What’s this part?

View attachment 62470 so i'm looking at the rubber part inside my heater box, it's rubber not foam and i'm wondering what its for. It didn't come in the rebuild kit from DMT and there is no mention of it. Any idea what purpose it serves? I'm going to glue it back in place as it's still in good condition.
