Need Some opinions!

Will be hitting the road again (truck Driver) but could use some opinions. You can answer here or my email (moparsanddiners@yahoo.com) as wife can get info from email while I am on the road. And Thanks to all in advance!!!
I know wrapping headers can void warranties BUT. I would like to seal my incoming air to the carb. to the opening in the scoop. So first opinion is does any one think it will help HP. Basics 66 Satellite, one piece lift off hood with Six Pack opening. Sitting underneath 505 with a 1050 Dominator. I know cool air is better, and this is a street car also. In fact 60/40 street/strip. Pictures in the members garage. My plan was to get sheet of plexiglass attach to air cleaner base (air cleaner it's self is open on sides 3 1/2" and top, K&N style) Filter 16"diameter top opening cover 14" dia., sounds weird but actually works. The plexiglass would be cut to fit so when hood is on the foam that I attach to the edges of the plexiglass seals to hood. This would also create a large "air box" like on a motocycle. Add a few "legs" of wooden towels to help support it. That way it can be removed easy with the air cleaner assembly and at car shows engine can be seen. First problem : I was told plexiglass melts at 280 degrees F. So while it will not get this hot while moving it could when shut off,the heat soak could raise the temps under hood to that. Was told polycarbonate (like common name "lexan") sofening point was 148C, which I think is over 300F. This is why I thought wrapping the headers would help. Actually two fold, reduce heat under hood and keep heat in header and the expansion of the air exiting the clyinders might help flow in the header? Does anyone know if this will work or am I just a "dumb old fart"? Jerry
