[WANTED] 11″ backing plates for 2.5 inch shoes

Hey All, looking for a set of 11″ backing plates that will accommodate the 2.5 inch rear brakes.

Just found out that my backing plates are for the 2 inch brakes and won’t work.

Thanks

What were the 11″ rear brake widths for Mopar?

I see in one of my manuals that 11X2.5 were available. What other widths were available?

And does anyone know what the width of the drum face was for each of the shoe widths?

I have a combo that isn’t working and I am trying to get it sorted.

Thanks…

Missing parts from Oreilly Auto, Grrrrrrr……..

I just ordered this clutch kit from Oreilly Auto:

The box it came in had been opened was missing the throw out bearing and grease pack. Grease pack isn’t a big deal but the throw out bearing is! The plastic wrap around the pressure plate had been torn open, and the alignment tool has scratches and dings in it. I’m sure someone bought this kit, tried to install it and returned it, sans a…

8.75, 742 Pinion Preload Question

This is the first time I have set the Pinion Preload on a 8.75 rear (742 case). First I tried .040 worth of shims as that was the thickness of the original shim pack. (Talking about Preload shims, not Pinion depth shims)
.040 was too tight even when only torqued to 100 lbs. So I added another .004 thou. The resulting .044 shim pack was perfect at 20 inch lbs of pre load (on new bearings) torqued to 240 foot lbs, with no Pinion seal as stated in the FSM.

I also did all this with the original…

Neat video – How a Transmission Works

Dunno if anyone has posted this before. The first part is elementary but the part about how the synchronizers, etc. work is pretty interesting if you don’t understand it.

Welding in 4speed hump

I should get to weld in my 4 spped hump this weekend.

Should I use stitch welds and fill the rest with seam sealer? Somehow welding the entire circumference of the hump seems excessive. Yes /no?

Also I was thinking of using undercoating on the botto…

What exactly is a “mini starter”

When folks say, get a “mini starter” are they talking about a starter like you’d find on a 2nd gen. Ram or Dakota such as:

Or are the “mini starters” marketed by Summit and others actually smaller?
