Engine ID?

trying to get to the bottom of what year engine I’ve got. So far there are several clues but we haven’t been able to crack the code.
-We have blue paint. It seems to be lighter blue indicating “turquoise”, but it’s so faded and rusty it’s hard to tell for sure.
-We have what we think is a ’68-’69 timing cover/water pump (which came with the engine from the junk yard.
-We have the imprint on the front of the block (from behind the pow.steering pump):
M318R 06 13 1947.
-We have “2536030” and…

timing chain cover saga, revisited…

Well, I’m in the process of replacing my timing chain and after removing the cover I realized I had a little hole in the surface behind where the water pump lives. I had that hole repaired but the Hack welder who did the repair for me took it upon himself to grind the excess weld off the mating surface with a hand grinder!!
Phase two. I had the water pump surfaced at a legitimate machine shop and am very happy with the work. However, looking at the back side of the cover (the face…

antifreeze or no- long term storage…

Well, that’s pretty much my question.
I have a ’68 Fury that’s sat for too long that I’ve started to resuscitate. In the process of my restoration I’ve been completely derailed (timing chain cover issues, virus bs, homeschooling duties and a plethora of other distractions) and have had to put the whole thing on hold. I don’t live full time where the Fury does (Mexico) and need to make some decisions…
At this point I have the timing chain cover off, valve covers off, radiator…

Timing chain cover question

I was wondering if anyone has an idea of the tolerance for my timing chain cover surface? I have it off the vehicle and had to repair a hole. The weld went onto the flat mating surface of the water pump and was ground off by hand with a handheld grin…

Looking for an undercarriage photo

Does anyone have an undercarriage photo of a ’68 Fury showing the oil pan area/front steering components? I have looked online and can’t find one.
I have the big shop manual and the drawings of the steering linkage aren’t great. A photo would be greatly appreciated.

’68 Fury w/318 oil pan gasket- any easy way to do this??

I am planning to change a leaking oil pan gasket in my 68 Fury. My shop manual says:
-remove engine torque converter left housing
-remove steering and idle arm ball joints from steering linkage center link
-remove exhaust cross-over pipe from exhaust manifolds and leave it hanging without disconnecting it from muffler

Dang. I must admit I have no idea what the “engine torque converter left housing” is (without doing a ton of research). And, I don’t have a ball joint removal tool or…

16lb rad. cap too much for heater core?

Well, that title is pretty much my question. Just bought a new aluminum radiator which is supplied with a 16lb. cap. My shop manual states, "7-12 psi". My concern is whether or not the 16 lbs. of pressure might cause a leak in my (original…
