I’m not a metal man but…

…I do my best! And I’m learning every day more! Finally starting body work on Baron. I already had very VERY old mig welding machine but it still working ok and now I also have a tig welder beside that. What I can say about tig welding…I need practice, a lot! Some pictures of progress.. 20200301_195821.jpg20200321_153707.jpg20200315_192739.jpg20200328_134648.jpg20200404_144807.jpg20200410_164038.jpg20200411_194511.jpg20200411_194456.jpg20200411_195412.jpg20200411_195133.jpg

-69 front inner fenders , what kind of plastic?

Is there any idea what kind of plastic (maybe ABS?) is -69 Imperial front fender halves?
Thanks in advance,
Mika

Worst factory welds ever…

These welds found from -69 Imp, sad but true (…and somehow funny). I think this should be open for all make and models but factory made.
First pic from rocker panel/ quarter panel joint, second from rear lid hinge support (this was a reason why lid doesn’t fit in a place).
After all I know I’m not a welder either…
Enjoy,
Mika

Interesting website for tool maniacs…

Maybe already known, lots of "tools and tools " but also many useful ideas HomemadeTools.net – More Than 30,000 Homemade Tools – HomemadeTools.net

Evercoat Ultra Xtra, experience anyone?

This is only slow drying polyester for large surfaces (you can say there is in fuselage Imperials some of them..) what I can find. Anyone used? Spreading, sanding, shrinking afterwards? I have used U-Pol Fantastic a lot but that’s too fast larger areas.
Thanks
Mika

Poor man’s DIY compressed airdryer

This was old idea but tested and worked quite well with this “OldWorkingHorse”. We used same kind unit with this compressor in that garage where I was part of the group of friends.
All you need is copper pipe, refrigerator and right size air…
First air goes compressor air tank then to a “cooling unit ” and after that another tank where remaining water should drop because its dropping downwards in that copper spiral.
This cost me around 200 euros and new proper dryer cost 1200 euros , and…
