Trunk divider

Had to pull the back seat of the ’70 2dr to get access to the trunk. The trunk divider seems to be a piece of felt? taped on with 3" black tape. Is this original or did the original owner do some work back here?

Exhaust advice

Good day! Got a ’70 Newport Custom 2dr HT. 2bbl Holley 383. Looks like someone did a Waldron’s stainless dual exhaust about 25-30 years ago. It looks (and smells) like Ive got a crack in the passenger side exhaust manifold. Any reason to replace w…

Last chance

Been working on ’70 Newport Custom 2bbl 383, new electronic ignition, for a while, and I’m stumped. Might be time to get to a pro, but I figured I’d ask the forums for help one more time. Car starts great, idles fine, feels really strong. I take it out on the road, and it runs great for about a mile, then loses power. It feels and sounds like it loses it in steps, I have to floor it to get enough power to get home and keep it from dying. I let off the gas and it dies. Try to start it,…

new distributor

Putting in a new distributor from Ricks Mopars, and it isn’t lining up with the old one. What am I missing. The one at left is the original at TDC and the rotor is pointing at #1 terminal on the cap. The tongue to fit into the engine is at the same location on both. Any ideas?

Timing question

Just replaced the timing gear in my 70 Newport. Pretty sure I did everything right, but when I try to start now, it sounds like the timing is off. It’ll turn over fine, and try to catch, but it sounds really slow and dies after a few cycles. I also replaced the fuel pump. Is there a way to check without engine running, or is it just trial and error?

where to start..

Driving along at about 60 in 1970 383 Newport, coasting down a hill, heard a large thud, and the motor just stopped. No backfire or anything. Just shut off. Drifted to the side of the road and popped the hood. No leaks, drips, anything obvious. On trying to restart, it sounds like it would if, for example, a spark plug wire is out. It rumbles for a couple cycles but doesn’t start. Just got it home, and am thinking about it. Figured I’d throw it up on here to see if people had ideas…

Easy question

Broke off a brake bleeder flush with the mount. Try to EZ-out it out, or just replace the wheel cylinder? opinions? And thanks.
