68 383 Oil gauge kept bouncing from 0 to 50 so I replaced it now it reads 90
should I be concerned

Putting in a new oil pan pickup tube in my 383. The original is round and the new ones I am seeing are square. Does it make a difference?

Hey Guys
I have a 68 Charger 383 in my 36 Plymouth and it came with a 7 qt oil pan. There is very low clearance and it keeps getting hit. Can I go to a 5 qt for better clearance?
