C-body on FBI files

Threw my back out, (possibility while working on my own C-body) so I’m sitting the day out on the couch. This episode of FBI files is about a Philadelphia mob war. Bookmaker was on the wrong side of the war one morning, but at least had nice taste in vehicles.

50 year-old stock cooling system

I should like to mention that this big-block car, running mostly 50 y/o cooling parts (rad, mechanical fan, w/p, etc) just idled for over two hours moving at the speeds show below. While not a “scorcher” it was hot enough that the General’s cell phone shut down from heat stroke.

There were no lights, no boiling sounds, no spark knocking, etc. The car was driven all day without any incident. Keep this in mind before you start “correcting” the original engineering that makes this possible….

Well stiffen my seats!

I’m not satisfied with the seats in my car. While they are in excellent cosmetic shape, they do not support my weight. I am also accustomed to more “upmarket” C-Bodies, not the base package. This difference was reinforced (pardon the pun) when I removed the seat base with relative ease… I’m used to Imperial seat bases that feel like they weigh 200lbs.

My thought was to “weave” a piece of 1/4 to 1/2″ thick PVC sheet plastic under the springs. (Rounding any sharp edges of course)…

Well stiffen my seats!

Fuel sending float

Is there an off-the-shelf replacement? As I suspected, my float sank. I seem to remember this was a part you could still buy at a Ford dealer a decade ago. I also remember zip-tieing a carb float to the sending unit arm once as well. What have you guys used? You’d think by now someone would have come up with some kind of universal gas-proof foam brick you could just attach.

2006 Cummins charging question

Have a friend in the PHX who I’ve been trying to help walk-through an electrical issue with his Dodge Ram 3500. He had simultaneous and intermittent “shutoff” of an aftermarket pryometer exhaust gas guage, an airbags fault, and A/C clutch disengagement. I believe we traced this back to an older, aftermarket remote starter that was probably putting out a bad message to the CAN BUS (stray voltage or ground). A shop who took a stab at this prior to my involvement replaced the TPMS (massive…

White Lightning (the movie)

It may be an all Ford cast, but I do love just about everything about this movie. I was flipping channels and caught a few of the more memorable early scenes. Who can ID the engine? Is it even a Ford? Then Burt’s (or the stunt driver’s) hand shifting the 4 speed. And lastly an action shot.

It seemed like this movie ran every few months on the local UHF station. Everyone I see it on TV, it makes me feel like I’m 14 again.

With an extra lifetime, I’d love to build a 71 Fury version of this…

As seen on FB

Someone should study the phenomenon of people painting bumblebee stripes on cars that never had them. Not Imperials, Plymouths or Mustangs; for that idiocy is plainly obvious.

I’m talking about painting a vertical line, 90 degrees from the pavement, even if subject vehicle has a ever-so-prominent feature (like a chrome bumper) that runs at a forward angle. Any sane person would at least follow this with a parallel line. And were there a lot of muscle-era Dodges that placed the stripe 12-18″…
