Dropping the tank

Alright, so next on my list is dropping the fuel tank. I need to do so to install a new sender for my aftermarket fuel gauge. I’ve got new straps, and a new snap ring, as well as new line (although it’s just the one size-I now know there are multiple sizes)

First question, what’s the best way to come at this? I’m not sure how full the tank is, but dad swears it’s close to full (he drove it last)

Second, is it worth going ahead and moving the tank over to allow for possibly dual exhaust….

School me on a transmission

Looking for some help,

I’ve got a cop 904 variant, which to the best of my knowledge is an A999. How do I differentiate that for sure without busting it open and counting clutches.

Second, I’ll be pulling said transmission soon..is it really as simple as everyone says (remove linkage/lines, support engine, remove crossmember, driveshaft, bellhousing bolts and flywheel bolts)

Lastly, while it’s only coming out to address a leak at the back of the engine, would it be better if I just went…

Oil galley plugs

Looking for oil galley plug information, and this is the best I’ve found so far. For reference this is for an LA 318 with Magnum heads. Rebuilt approximately 6 years ago, maybe has 2500 miles on it.

Issue 1. Under heavy acceleration, I notice smoke coming from the passenger side. I cannot accurately tell of its coming from the exhaust or externally somewhere on the engine. When I turn the car off however, I typically can see oil on the backside of the passenger head near the bellhousing….

360 Magnum Build Ideas

Alright, I think Im going to bite the bullet and yank the 318. Its running stronger now than ever, but I’ve got a leaky oil galley plug and REALLY dont want to pull it just to reinstall and yank 2 years later.

Im thinking of a stock bottom end rebuild, thin head gaskets, using the heads from my 318 (also magnum heads, but already freshened up) and doing what I need to do in order to accept a higher lift cam, a bigger roller cam, keeping the M1 Magnum dual plane intake, and headers. Im up…

Oil galley plugs

Alright, next on my offseason list is to tighten the leaking oil galley plugs. The one I know of, is on the passenger side of the block.

So, what’s the easiest way to get to it? I’m still deciding on either hooking up a chain hoist in the garage, or borrowing an engine hoise (dad sold the one we had) or finding a transmission jack. Eventually I’ll have at least one use for all 3 options, but surely getting to these plugs will be a bit more complicated than that.

Thanks

Front shocks

Looking for info for new front shocks. Long story short, got under the car this morning and while giving everything else a once-over I noticed the drivers side shock isnt even hooked up. Not sure how long it’s been like that, but I figure while I’m addressing it I’d might as well put something better in it.

Ultimate goal, something that feels/handles like a new car. I’ve already got plans for the steering box (Steer and Gear is an hour from me) but beyond that im pretty much lost.

I’ve…

Winter list

Alright now that the axle swap is done and the engine is running strong, it’s time to get serious about getting this car where I want it. Heres what I’ve gotten built up on the list so far

  • Finish hanging lights in garage
  • Find/fix trans leak (coming from cooler/radiator area)
  • Pinion shims
  • Tighten oil galley plug
  • Figure out why I still have no working speedometer
  • Rewire gauges (again)
  • Replace sending unit in fuel tank (along with new straps)
  • Repaint wheels…
